Old brick linden tree

The old brick linden tree

The old brick lime tree is an approximately 450-year-old lime tree on Öschinger Straße in Gönningen and at the same time one of the oldest and most important trees between the Swabian Alb and Schönbuch . The tree has therefore been designated as a natural monument since 1993.

As can be read from the wooden plaque attached to the trunk, this tree was already in the vicinity of the brickworks mentioned in 1522 over 400 years ago. An indication of the age of the tree is also provided by the renovated half-timbered house standing next to it , in which oak beams from the 16th century are built.

Around the turn of the millennium, supports were attached to the tree to secure the tree veteran's future. The crown had already been taken back considerably, tied with holding ropes and has developed well again on the massive, clearly crooked 6-meter trunk.
