The Alteburg is a Carolingian rampart south of Essen-Werden on the left side of the Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia . A few hundred meters further north on the Pastoratsberg there was a similar complex in the 9th to 11th centuries, the Herrenburg .

The ramparts are now a listed building .
