Detlef Hopp

Detlef Hopp (born August 21, 1956 in Essen ) is a German archaeologist .

Life

Hopp graduated in second-chance education at Episcopal night school in Essen High School and then studied at the University of Bochum Prehistory and Early History in the main compartment and classical archeology and human biology in the minors. He graduated in 1984 with a Master of Arts , and in 1989 with a thesis on the early and mid quietly Age settlement pottery in the lower Rhine doctorate . He worked as a lecturer at the Universities of Osnabrück and Essen . He was also employed at the Museum Altenessen, a temporary branch of the Ruhrland Museum . Since 1992 he was entrusted with the development of the city ​​archeology in Essen and has been the city archaeologist since then. Since 1999, Hopp has been a permanent employee of the Essen Institute for Monument Protection and Preservation. In addition, he has been a lecturer at the Institute for Archaeological Sciences at the Ruhr University Bochum for several years.

Hopp's research focuses on the prehistory and early history of the Lower Rhine region , industrial archeology and urban archeology, especially in Essen and the surrounding area. He has published numerous academic books and articles on these topics in Germany and abroad.
