AlterVista is an Italian website and blog freehoster . The company was founded in 2000 as a university project by Gianluca Danesin with an initial investment of 30,000 Italian Lira (around 15 euros). AlterVista has been part of the Banzai SpA Group since 2006. AlterVista hosts around 2.5 million websites and blogs, which together are visited by around 7.6 million users each month, with a total of 1.5 billion page views.

offer

AlterVista mainly offers two offers: a traditional PHP web hosting and a blog service.

Web hosting offers the option of creating a PHP based website and activating a MySQL database. Storage space and monthly traffic are limited, but can be expanded indefinitely after payment. Various software ( Wordpress , Joomla , phpBB ) can be installed automatically. A website builder called "Alterpages" is available as a simplified alternative.

A second offer from AlterVista is a WordPress based blog service with unlimited storage space and data traffic.

advertising

AlterVista's economic model is based on the so-called "revenue sharing" system, which means that the hoster and the webmaster share the advertising income. Webmasters are therefore not forced to place advertising banners on their websites, but they have the opportunity to generate an income through their page views.

Available languages

AlterVista was initially distributed on the Italian market and has also been available in English since February 2010.
