Main house

The Alte Beckhof am Menkebach in the Sennestadt district of Bielefeld is an original Neusiedlerhof. This gave its name to the Beckhofsiedlung , a location of the Von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel . Former forced laborers who could not return to their homeland after World War II were housed there .

Building history

The main house was built in 1782 and was surrounded by smaller farmsteads and farm buildings. An expansion in 1828 made Beckhof the largest homestead in the Senne at that time. Today the building has a size of 600 m² and is listed.

Beckhof Church

Most of the people from Eastern Europe lived in the Beckhofsiedlung, named after the historic farmhouse. These were former prisoners of war and forced laborers who needed accommodation as displaced persons after the Second World War . These were previously housed in a camp in Augustdorf . Above all, the needy, the sick and the disabled were admitted to the Augustdorf camp. They found a new home in the Senne, as did those who could not return because of their national, religious and political convictions.

In 1959 a church was built with four chapels for different denominations.

Other buildings were a training center, a communal kitchen, an excursion restaurant, an international dormitory and a communal house.
