Old trench

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alte Bockgraben is the old river bed of the Thaya in Lower Austria .

In the course of straightening the Thaya, its course was relocated to the Czech Republic . Since the Thaya also represented the state border, its former river bed took over this function, which is called Alter Bockgraben after one of its tributaries . At the same time, the Alte Bockgraben also takes in the right tributaries of the Thaya, including the Wildendürnbach , and routes them downstream to the Thaya. This depression on the Austrian side is flooded by the Thaya during a hundred-year flood.
