The cemetery chapel in the old cemetery of Kochendorf

The old cemetery in Kochendorf , a district of Bad Friedrichshall in northern Baden-Württemberg , was laid out around 1600. It has since been replaced as a burial place by the Kochendorfer Bergfriedhof and the rights of use have expired in 1995. Since then, it has been gradually converted into a green area.

history

The original burial place in Kochendorf was at the Sebastianskirche . When this was renewed around 1600, a new cemetery was created some distance southwest of the town center. On this walled and several times enlarged cemetery is a cemetery chapel that emerged from an old Marienkapelle from the construction time of the cemetery.

Despite multiple extensions, the cemetery was no longer sufficient after the Second World War . The town council of Bad Friedrichshall therefore decided to build the mountain cemetery northeast of the town, which was inaugurated in 1969. The occupancy of the old cemetery was gradually discontinued. As of December 31, 1995, all usage rights finally expired. Spouses can still be buried in existing graves until the rest periods have expired . The cemetery should be completely converted into a green area by 2030.

In the cemetery are u. a. important graves of the Barons von Wächter-Lautenbach, including the grave of the former Württemberg Foreign Minister August von Wächter (1807–1879), as well as tombs of the Barons Capler von Oedheim , the Imperial Counts von Zech and the Bachert family of bell foundries .
