The family of the Capler von Oedheim was a German aristocratic family, which has been documented since the 13th century and since around 1400 had the further nickname called Bautz . The seat of the family, which died out in 1967, was the Oedheim Castle in Oedheim in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg .

The family is led by numerous names in the literature, including Capler von Oedheim called Bautz, Caplan von Oedheim, Cappler von Oedheim, Caplan von und zu Oedheim, Caplan von Oedheim zu Steinsfeld and Weinsberg or Caplanus. She is of the baronial class.

history

The first known bearer of the name is a Ruodigerus de Hoedehain (Oedheim) with the nickname Capplanus, named in 1235 as a servant of the Lords of Weinsberg . Wipert von Oedheim, who lived around the same time and is considered the oldest reliable progenitor of the family, has the same surname. The nickname Capplanus well served further to distinguish resident in Oedheim derived related Niederadeliger (possibly cognate with the Lords of Witt instead ) and possibly refers to the oldest Oedheimer Church (lat. Capella ), near which the original of a castle today Castle Oedheim as Family headquarters. Outside the former castle area is the widow's house built in the early 16th century , the widow's residence of the Capler widows.

The first Capler, who had the additional nickname called Bautz , was Ulrich Capler von Oedheim, called Bautz (approx. 1360-1437). The Upper German nickname Bautz developed from the Middle High German word buz (blow, shock). The Caplers initially had the castle in Oedheim and the Willenbach farm as a Weinberg, later as a Palatinate and from 1504 as a Württemberg fiefdom, while the town of Oedheim came under the Teutonic Order in 1484 , which led to repeated disputes, especially after the Caplers became Protestant around 1700 led.

The son Wolfgang Christian Capler von Oedheim (1747–1825) was a Prussian and Württemberg captain, married in 1795 to Auguste Albertine von Dresky (1778–1852). Their son Gustav Wolfgang Capler (1803–1868) was a district forester in Württemberg. In 1834 he married Therese Eleonore von Bühler (1812–1898), the daughter of the neo-Nigerian rent clerk Cral Friedrich von Bühler. The younger son Hermann Wolfgang Capler (1838–1886) was the commander of the Uhlan regiment "King Karl" No. 19 . The older son Heinrich Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (1835–1914) was married to Martha von Breuning (1846–1874) and to her sister Camilla (1837–1917) for the first time and acquired Sophie Valeska von from his mother-in-law Beuting 1886 Lehen Castle in Kochendorf . His eldest son, Hans Wolfgang Capler von Oedheim, called Bautz (1870–1917), embarked on a military career, but died early from an illness that he had suffered during the First World War.

The family property fell in 1914 to the younger brother Dietrich Fritz Hermann Freiherr Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (1876–1967), who only returned from the First World War in 1919 and took over the property because of a guarantee he had taken over in 1928 for the Heilbronn merchant Hagenbucher, who went bankrupt shortly afterwards Kochendorf lost. Dietrich took up residence in Oedheim Castle and made many contributions to the community, which made him an honorary citizen in 1961. With his death in 1967, the family went out.

In the old cemetery of Oedheim there are several historical tombs of the family from different eras.

In Siebmacher 1605, the family's coat of arms is a silver bar on a red background. The crest shows red buffalo horns in turn covered with a silver bar. The helmet covers are kept in red and silver.
