Dietrich Fritz Hermann Freiherr Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (born August 5, 1876 in Kochendorf ; † December 8, 1967 in Stuttgart ) was the last representative of the noble family of the Capler von Oedheim and became an honorary citizen of Oedheim in 1961 .

Life

Dietrich was the younger son of Freiherr Heinrich Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (1835–1914) and Camilla Freiin von Breuning (1837–1917). Like his older brother Hans Wolfgang (1870–1917), who came from his father's first marriage to Martha Freiin von Breuning (1846–1874), Dietrich joined the Uhlan regiment "King Wilhelm I." after graduating from high school in 1894. (2nd Württembergisches) No. 20 of the Württemberg Army . In 1896 he was a lieutenant , later regimental adjutant and in 1908 as Rittmeister orderly officer to King Wilhelm II.

During the First World War , Capler was part of the 26th Division in the Army Group "Mackensen" in Serbia in 1915, and in 1916 he fought with the 26th Reserve Division on the Somme against the British. On July 18, 1917, he was promoted to major and came with the 7th Landwehr Division in Army Group Linsingen to Russia on the Stochod , where he became adjutant of the general command of the Corps "Knoerzer" with whom he was in 1918 Ukraine fought. He experienced the end of the war in Odessa , from where he took a hospital ship to Genoa in 1919 and from there back home, where he inherited the family, as his father, mother and brother had died between 1914 and 1917.

After 25 years of service, he said goodbye to the Württemberg Army. In addition to various estates, his property included the family headquarters of Schloss Oedheim , where he took up residence, Willenbach and Schloss Lehen in Kochendorf, which his father had acquired in 1886. However, after he had taken on a guarantee for the Heilbronn merchant Hagenbucher, who soon went bankrupt, in 1928, he was forced to sell his Kochendorf property.

As a privateer, Dietrich Capler was able to devote himself entirely to his numerous musical inclinations. This included the passion for hunting, which he kept from early youth until the end of his life. As a cavalry officer, he had never lost his interest in equestrian sports. He regularly attended the horse races in the Hippodrome in Iffezheim . He was also active as a poet. His works are summarized in a volume of poetry. He kept in close contact with the community of Oedheim and the local club life and appeared as their patron and sponsor.

In 1961, as part of the celebrations for his 85th birthday, he was made an honorary citizen of Oedheim. In 1967 he died childless and was thus the last representative of the old imperial knight family Capler von Oedheim. He was buried next to his brother on December 14, 1967 with great sympathy from the community of Oedheim, the local council, the citizens and the numerous representatives of the associations. The Capler tomb created by Albert Volk for his brother was expanded to include his name and a relief portrait.
