Hans Wolfgang Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (born November 24, 1870 in Kochendorf ; † May 2, 1917 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg officer , wing adjutant of King Wilhelm II of Württemberg and legal knight of the Order of St. John .

Life

Hans Wolfgang was the son of Baron Heinrich Capler von Oedheim called Bautz (1835–1914) from his first marriage to Martha von Breuning (1846–1874). He attended the Lyzeum in Cannstatt , where the family owned a town house, then the Stuttgart Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium and joined the Württemberg army in 1889 , where in 1901 and 1903 he was regimental adjutant in the Uhlan regiment "King Wilhelm I." No. 20 , 1905 Rittmeister and personal adjutant of Duke Ulrich and 1908 squadron chief in the dragoon regiment "King" No. 26 was. In 1908 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Second Class of the Order of Frederick , in 1911 he was promoted to major and serving as adjutant of King Wilhelm II of Württemberg.

During the First World War , Capler took part in the fighting near Varennes and in the Argonne Forest in 1914 . In December 1914 he became commander of the Dragoon Regiment "Queen Olga" No. 25 , with whom he took part in battles in Upper Alsace, Lorraine and the Vosges. In February 1915 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , and in June 1915 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1916 he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Military Merit and the Iron Cross 1st Class.

In the winter of 1916/17 Capler was in Romania with his dragoon regiment. When the regiment marched back to Belgium, he fell ill and died on May 2, 1917 of the consequences of that disease. He was buried in the cemetery in Oedheim and was given a striking tomb with helmet and sword, designed and executed by Albert Volk . His half-brother and last representative of the baron family, Dietrich Capler von Oedheim called Bautz , was buried at his side in 1967.
