The old Jewish cemetery in Pforzheim was on Eutinger Strasse. It was laid out in 1846 and used for burials until 1878, before a new Jewish cemetery was built as part of Pforzheim's main cemetery . Expropriated and leveled at the time of National Socialism, the area was built over and used by the Pforzheim municipal utilities after the Second World War until the 1980s, before it was restored as a green area in 1986.

history

The 453 square meter cemetery was laid out in 1846. After the construction of the non-denominational main cemetery in Pforzheim in 1878, which also houses a Jewish cemetery, the Old Jewish Cemetery was no longer occupied, but was still preserved. During the Nazi era, the cemetery was desecrated and leveled in 1940. When the Jewish community was expropriated, the cemetery came to the Reich Association of Jews in Germany in 1942, and from there to the city of Pforzheim in 1943. The city added the site to the adjacent gas works site. After the end of the war, Eutinger Strasse was widened, for which 116 square meters of the cemetery were ceded. A 307 square meter section of the former cemetery remained for the municipal utilities. This was paved and covered with a vehicle shed. The past of the site was not remembered until the 1980s. As a result, in 1986 it was restored as an enclosed green space and a memorial plaque was attached.
