Old braid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term old braid is colloquially disparagingly a well-known, but outdated and no longer common fashion, behavior, idea or regulation. The phrase cutting off old braids also refers to turning away from outdated facilities and ideas.

The phrase goes back to the common Prussian soldier's braid prescribed in the 18th century . After the French Revolution, this was a symbol of backwardness. During a symbolic cremation at the Wartburg Festival , a military braid was given to the flames as a symbol of the survivor. In 1969 the election campaign slogan of the FDP was : "We are getting rid of the old braids."

In China, under the Manchurian Qing dynasty, the braid hairstyle was generally mandatory. After the revolution of 1911 , braids were cut everywhere here.
