The old Protestant cemetery in Bielsko-Biała is a disused cemetery in the Bielitzer Zion district of the city of Bielsko-Biała in Poland .

The cemetery was built in 1833 after a cholera epidemic in 1831 on a property donated by soap maker Gottlieb Klimke. Previously, Protestants and Catholics were buried in the Trinity Church cemetery.

In the 1860s the cemetery was enlarged to the east and a new Protestant cemetery was built in 1911; funerals were held in the old cemetery until the Second World War .

After the war, the Polish side tried to erase the German traces. The bereaved camouflaged the inscriptions and tipped the tombstones on their front. After the fall of 1989, the tombstones were renovated.

The entrance to the seven-sector cemetery leads through a neo-Gothic gate with three arches built in 1863. The oldest tombstone is dated to 1857.

Honored citizens of the city rest in the cemetery, such as:

  • Mayor, e.g. B. Karl Ferdinand Sennewaldt, Moritz Scholz and Heinrich Hofmann,
  • Pastors, e.g. B. Josef Schimko, Karl Samuel Schneider and Theodor Haase,
  • Entrepreneurs, e.g. B. Gustav Josephy, Gustav Förster and Hermann Schneider,
  • Benefactor, e.g. B. Theodor Sixt .

The cemetery, which has been closed for more than 60 years, forms a green area in the center of the city.
