Alternate frame rendering (technology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR) is a multi-GPU technology from ATI Technologies for distributing the load of the computing work on several graphics chips . The method was used by ATI Technologies for the Rage Fury Maxx , which was equipped with two Rage-128-Pro graphics chips.

With AFR, the successive individual images are alternately calculated by the graphics chips, but no consideration is given to any different complexity of the different frames. AFR is therefore the easiest multi-GPU technology to implement and namesake for the alternate frame rendering mode, which all multi-GPU processes can use if required.
