Old town hall Merzhausen

The old town hall in Merzhausen , a district of Usingen , is a listed building .

use

The representative half-timbered house was built around 1530 as an administration building with assembly rooms on both floors. It was the administrative seat of the Stockheim Lower Court . The Märker things of the Stockheimer Mark were also held here. The builders were the gentlemen von Reifenberg , who had been involved in the Stockheim Lower Court since 1456 and wanted to use this building to file a structural claim on the Lower Court. When the Stockheim court became completely Nassau in 1669, a Reifenberg coat of arms was still on the building.

From 1669 to 1961 the house was used as the town hall of the Merzhausen community. 1766/67, while the Evangelical Church was being rebuilt , it was also temporarily used as a church for the parish.

In 1963 the Protestant parish bought the house and has been using it as a parish hall since 1964.

Building description

The age of the house was dendrochronologically estimated at 1529 ± 6 years in 1968 . The compensation base consists of rubble stones, the two upper floors are designed in half-timbered construction. St. Andrew's crosses are particularly used as decorative elements in the framework. The ground floor of the house is designed as a hall. Two wooden supports in the central axis create the necessary stability.

As part of the change of use in 1964, renovations and a rear extension were carried out by the architect Guckes from Usingen. The entrance was moved to the south side and additional windows were installed.

Monument protection

Due to its historical importance, the house is a listed monument. It is also protected as part of the Alt-Merzhausen complex.
