Altinbugha al-Maridani
Altinbugha al-Maridani ( Arabic الطنبغا المارداني, DMG Alṭinbuġā al-Māridānī ; † 1343 ) was a high dignitary in Mameluke Egypt and Syria in the mid-fourteenth century . He began his career as a cupbearer under Sultan al-Malik an-Nasir Muhammad . He then became Emir of a Thousand and Police Chief of Cairo . Eventually Altinbugha al-Maridani married a daughter of the sultan. He was able to continue his career under al-Ashraf Kuguk and al-Salih Ishmael . He died in 1343 while he was governor of Aleppo . Today he is best known as the builder of the Altinbugha al-Maridani Mosque , which he had built between 1339 and 1340, at a time when he was seriously ill.
