Old King pen
The Altkönig-Stift is a senior citizens ' cooperative , which is organized in the legal form “ registered cooperative ” (eG). It is the largest retirement home in the Rhine-Main area and is located in the Oberhöchstadt district of Kronberg im Taunus , on the slope of the Altkönig , directly on the forest. The apartment blocks built in the 1960s offer space for 640 residents. Despite the size of the residential complex, the demand for senior housing and care places is greater than the supply. From 2008 to 2013 a new house with 60 beds was built.
When the Altkönig monastery was built in 1969/70, the complex initially formed a "village within a village". Before the construction, Oberhöchstadt had 4,411 inhabitants, at the end of 1971 it had jumped to 5,326 inhabitants (today there are around 6,200). The location on the outskirts also contributed to the special position in the village, which prevented integration into the established village structures.
Park and sculpture garden
Next to the Altkönigstift is the associated park, which is also open to the public. The complex includes lawns, a cottage garden, a pond and a sculpture garden . A number of sculptures by some well-known artists are exhibited here.
