Alto International School in Menlo Park , south of San Francisco , offers classes from kindergarten to college entrance. The curriculum is multilingual and includes German classes from kindergarten to 5th grade and then a combined German-English offer.

The school has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2007 and offers the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) up to grade 5 and the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6 to 12. The school has been open since February 2018 recognized for the IB Diploma Program (DP), which is offered in grades 11 and 12. According to the decision of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the IB Diploma is recognized as a university degree in Germany.

The school was originally founded in 1988 as the first German-American school on the US West Coast and changed its name from German-American International School ( GAIS ) to Alto International School in September 2016 . In 2017, students at the school received the highest number of California Gold Medals from the American Association of Teachers of German, placing them fifth in the entire United States. As of September 2016, 250 students are being taught.
