Jazz à Porquerolles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jazz à Porquerolles is celebrated since 2002 smaller Jazz - Festival on the island of Porquerolles in Hyeres . The drummer Aldo Romano and the saxophonist Archie Shepp have been its patron and honorary president since they helped found it, and as such are often represented in the program. Around 10,000 visitors come every year.

Structures

It takes place annually on five consecutive days in the first half of July , in the same month as the two other festivals on the Côte d'Azur Jazz à Juan and the Nice Jazz Festival . The concerts take place in the evening on the site of the former Fort Sainte Agathe, a hill and lookout point in the middle of the Port-Cros Natural Park . The concert guests get a guaranteed crossing on the ferry for a corresponding surcharge with the entrance ticket , so that you can stay overnight in Hyères.

The concert program is framed by a competition for young talent, workshops with performing musicians, musical hands-on activities for children and adults, a music film program and other participation offers.

Other jazz concerts in the course of the year, most of which take place in the St. Denis theater building in Hyères, are also organized by the same organizational team under the established name Jazz à Porquerolles . In 2019, for example, Reggie Washington with Rainbow Shadow as well as the Maciej Obara Quartet and the Adrien Brandeis Quintet were among them.

The Union

Jazz à Porquerolles is also the name of an "Association loi 1901", a non-profit organization that organizes Jazz à Porquerolles , as well as the jazz competition Le Tremplin Jazz à Porquerolles , Les saisons Jazz au Théâtre Denis (on behalf of Hyères town hall) and Le festival Jazz à tout Var (for the Conseil Général du Var).

The festival is headed artistically by Samuel Thiebaut and organizationally by Laure Le Vavasseur, head of administration, represented by the director and guitarist Frank Cassenti as the president of the festival association. The event poster has been designed by graphic artist Jacek Wozniak since 2004. Thiebaut cooperates with a number of radio and television broadcasters, whose concert recordings ensure a multiplication of the audience. These include Arte , France 3 Provence-Alpes, Mezzo Classic & Jazz TV, TV Sud, Radio Active 100 FM, Radio Grenouille Marseille 88 FM and the French online trade magazine Culture Jazz.
