Düsseldorf Festival

The düsseldorf festival! , formerly Altstadtherbst cultural festival düsseldorf , is an annual 19-day cultural festival in Düsseldorf . It usually takes place from mid-September to early October in Düsseldorf's old town . Venues are a large theater tent on Burgplatz , churches, museums, industrial rooms and galleries in the old town and all of Düsseldorf's inner city . The festival was launched in 1991 as a private initiative and over the years has gained supraregional importance. The around 60 events attract over 20,000 visitors every year.

concept

The festival focuses on interdisciplinary music and theater events. Those responsible pay special attention to new dance and circus productions. Particular attention is paid to innovative and unusual artistic means of expression. The venues are chosen in such a way that the visitor does not fear the threshold with the aim of addressing such a broad audience. There is also unconventionality in the selection of artists. Stars stand next to newcomers, local artists next to well-traveled artists.

Organization and financing

Christiane Oxenfort and Andreas Dahmen are the festival's artistic directors and managing directors of the Düsseldorf Festival non-profit GmbH . The board of trustees of the festival includes public figures in Düsseldorf. The festival is supported and supported by many private sponsors, the city of Düsseldorf and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The 2011 budget includes around 1.2 million euros and around 300,000 euros in donations in kind.
