The bascule bridge Am Querkanal , also known as the Querkanalbrücke , is a bridge in Stralsund in the street Am Querkanal over the transverse canal that divides the harbor island into a northern and a southern area. It is one of five bridges over which the harbor island can be reached and a technical monument .
History and description
The unilateral drawbridge of steel was built in 1930 and put into service the 1,932th Between 1993 and 1994 it was extensively renovated.
The bridge can be used by rail vehicles , cars , pedestrians and cyclists. It is covered on the land side by mechanical barrier trees and bridge cover signals , the subsequent dependency with back lock is created by hand locks. There are four fixed opening times per working day, and two more dates on Sundays and public holidays. On special occasions, an extra opening can be registered with the building authority.
The bridge is located on the outskirts of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the historical old towns Stralsund and Wismar . It is included in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 30.
