Amalrich I of Montfort
Amalrich I of Montfort (French: Amaury ; † after 1052/53) was the first known lord of Montfort-l'Amaury in the early 11th century and thus the progenitor of the House of Montfort-l'Amaury .
Its origin is unclear. Ordericus Vitalis later reported that he was the son of a "Wilhelm von Hennegau", which is not proven in any contemporary source. According to an entry in the Chronicle of Saint-Denis , his mother was a lady from Nogent. Between the years 1022 and 1031 Amalrich appears as a witness to several documents from King Robert II of France . In 1052/53 he founded the Saint-Thomas priory in Épernon , after which nothing more is reported about him.
He had at least two sons, his successor Simon I and Mainer.
