Captain Sorrell and his son is an American drama from 1927. The screenplay of the silent film is based on a novel by Warwick Deeping .
action
Captain Stephen Sorrell, who was awarded the Military Cross , returns home to London after the end of the First World War. His fun-loving wife, Dora, packed her things to run away with another man. Sorrell is poor, unemployed, and in poor health. Sorrell faces poverty with his son Kit. The guest house owner Flo Palfrey, who delights in his fate, humiliates and betrays him. But Sorrell does not get involved with the common woman and thus loses his apartment. Sorrell works as a porter in another guesthouse. However, the former war hero gets into trouble with his superior, but he can endure anything just to be able to provide for his son. In fact, Sorrell manages to place his son in a posh boarding school.
Kit grows up and tries to fulfill his dream of becoming a surgeon. A surgeon was once able to save the life of his childhood friend. Kit finds his mother Dora at boarding school. She tries to win his heart by buying him everything he wants. But Kit recognizes in her a sad and pathetic creature. He returns to his father, now a trained surgeon. Father and son admire each other. Sorrell has now found a woman to live with. On his deathbed, he sends his son into a life full of fulfilling love, which is to be dedicated to the service of humanity.
