Since the age of 16, Mary Imogene Robertson worked under the pseudonym Imogene "Bubbles" Wilson as a showgirl in Broadway revues for the Impresario Florenz Ziegfeld . Soon after, she also appeared on the side of John Gilbert , Lon Chaney Sr. and Edward G. Robinson .

In 1933 she played her last film role. The following 16 years were marked by unsuccessful vaudeville appearances in the province, clashes with the police and the judiciary, most recently malnutrition, substance abuse, problems with her gall bladder and liver, and several nervous breakdowns. Finally, in the fall of 1948, she voluntarily committed suicide using barbiturates .
