The Amateur Entomologists' Society ( AES ) is a UK non-profit organization for people interested in insects .

history

Based in the United Kingdom, the Amateur Entomologists' Society was founded in 1935 as The Entomological Exchange and Correspondence Club to serve as a forum through which young professional entomologists and amateurs can exchange not only information but also equipment and the like.

In 1937 the name was changed to the Amateur Entomologists Society and has remained unchanged under this since then.

The Journal of the AES first appeared as The Bulletin in 1939, and in the same year the first irregular publication called " Coleoptera Collecting " appeared.

The Society has advised on invertebrate conservation for over 40 years and has been consulted on laws such as the UK Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and its revision.

In 1989 the Bulletin became a bimonthly instead of a quarterly magazine, but has since reverted to the quarterly publication and now has a colored section that alternates with the Invertebrate Conservation News .

In the course of 1997, however, the AES merged with the Bug Club to form the AES Bug Club, which today forms the junior section of the company. The Bug Club has a separate bimonthly magazine, Bug Club Magazine .

The Entomologist's Record and Journal of Variation has been a publication of the Amateur Entomologists' Society since 2009 .
