Samantha Murphy

Samantha Murphy , also Sam Murphy (born April 21, 1997 as Samantha Leshnak ), is an American soccer player who is used as a goalkeeper. She plays Courage for North Carolina .

Life

Leshnak first grew up in Liberty Township, Butler County, Ohio . In June 2019 she married Kyle Murphy.

Career

In April 2019, she got a contract as a substitute goalkeeper at North Carolina Courage.

Murphy became known to a wider public in June 2020 when she was the only one not to kneel down to show solidarity with Black Lives Matter before a game against Portland Thorns while the American anthem was being played. However, she wore a t-shirt with the imprint Black Lives Matter and Kneeled as the Stadium Announcer honored victims of racial injustice.
