Amelie (from ancient Greek μέλος mélos "limb" with alpha privativum ) describes a congenital malformation with the absence of one or more limbs .

If all four limbs are affected, one speaks of a tetra-amelia .

If the arms are affected, this is called an abrachia .

If there is no lack, but a malformation with deformation and / or shortening, the term is dysmelia .
