America is a well-known engraving by the Belgian painter Jan van der Straet , also known as Stradanus. It was created between 1575 and 1580.

The picture shows Amerigo Vespucci , who ends up in the New World and talks to an undressed native.

In the background, stereotypes about natives are served, u. a. Cannibalism .

America became a symbol of the discovery of the New World .
