American Association of Petroleum Geologists

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) is an international scientific society with a focus on petroleum geology, but its general aim is to promote the geosciences. They were founded in 1917 and are headquartered in Tulsa , Oklahoma . About a third of its members are not residents of the United States. Members must have a degree in geology and at least three years of work experience.

There are departments for Environmental Geosciences (DEG), Energy Minerals (EMD) and Professional Affairs with their own code of ethics and measures to promote the professional standards of the members.

It publishes the AAPG Explorer Magazine (newsletter) and the AAPG Bulletin monthly .
