The American Lung Association ( English , " American Lung Association ") is an American non-profit organization that combats diseases of the lung in all forms, with a primary focus on asthma, tobacco control and environmental diseases.

The association is funded by public grants, gifts and grants from companies, foundations and government agencies. The American Lung Association achieves its goals through the work of several thousand volunteers and employees.

history

  • 1904: Foundation of the society in the fight against tuberculosis as the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis (German: "State Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis ")
  • 1908: A Christmas charity stamp is introduced to raise funds and raise public awareness of tuberculosis and other lung diseases
  • 1920 (circa): Renamed National Tuberculosis Association (NTA, German: "National Association for Tuberculosis")
  • 1968: Renamed National Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association (German: "State Association for Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases")
  • 1973: Renamed to today's American Lung Association
