history

The company was originally founded as De Oro Mines, Inc. on June 17, 1991 in Nevada. The company's plan to set up a mining operation could not be implemented and all capital was used up. In 1996, the company's existing "shell" was used to create the financial basis for the takeover of the assets of Saf-T-Hammer Inc. (a manufacturer of gun safety devices) and for further business development. This takeover took place on October 20, 1998 and the company changed its name to Saf-T-Hammer Corporation.

In 2001, Tomkins took over arms manufacturer Smith & Wesson for $ 15 million. As a result, the name was changed from Saf-T-Hammer Corporation to Smith & Wesson Holdings Corporation. From 2007 onwards there were further takeovers. The arms manufacturer Thompson Center Holding Corporation was taken over in 2007 and Deep River Plastics, LLC in 2015. In 2015, Battenfeld Technologies and Hooyman manufacturers of outdoor and hunting products were also taken over. In 2016 the outdoor lamp manufacturer Power Tech, Inc. came along and in 2017 the tool and knife manufacturer BTI Tools, the laser sight manufacturer Crimson Trace Corporation and the outdoor product provider Ultimate Survival Technologies.

Due to this comprehensive realignment of the corporate strategy, the name of the group was changed to American Outdoor Brands Corporation on January 3, 2017.
