The American Society for Training & Development (short ASTD ) is a global organization dedicated to the learning at work is dedicated. The ASTD has 70,000 members in over 100 countries. The ASTD annually organizes various specialist conferences that take place in different cities in the USA.

history

According to its own statements, the ASTD was founded in 1944, when the organization held its first annual conference. The organization is based in Alexandria , Virginia. The ASTD has 19 so-called global networks worldwide, the respective sub-organizations in the countries of Asia, South America and Europe. The German global network, ASTD Global Network Germany, was founded in 2002. The current ASTD President is the American Tony Bingham .

The German Global Network was founded in 2002 as the first international network. The aim here is in particular the open dialogue between in-house HR officers and external parties in the field of human resources, training and personnel development.

Awards and awards

As the world's largest organization for workplace learning and personnel development, the ASTD annually honors outstanding projects, training concepts and “best practices” in the field of workplace learning, performance improvement and personnel and career development. The winners of the ASTD Awards are predominantly from the American market.

The prizes are divided into two levels: Citations (“Honorable Mention”) denote exemplary concepts that have not yet been evaluated. “Real” awards are given to those contenders who have achieved outstanding measurable successes and results with their concept.

Excellence in Practice Awards

The Excellence in Practice Award honors personnel development and learning concepts and is presented annually at the ASTD International Conference & Exposition.

Criteria for the award are

  • Individual and target group-specific conception and implementation of the measure
  • Safeguarding the interests of the company and its employees
  • ensuring the coordination and embedding of the concept in further in-house personnel development measures
  • clear and measurable results that correspond to the previous needs and individual objectives
  • Evidence of recognizable changes / improvements within the organization and among individuals and teams
  • Evidence of the reusability and multipliability of the concept inside and outside the company
  • Opportunities for other experts to learn from this project and to implement similar measures in their own work

All projects must be nominated by two experts, of which at least one nomination should come from the target organization in which the measure is implemented. Applications must be submitted in cooperation with a customer, always from the perspective of the customer organization.
