The 10 mm Auto cartridge is a powerful pistol cartridge .
history
The development of this caliber is American gun expert Colonel Jeff Cooper (co-founder of the IPSC been essentially involved Trek motion). When the Norma Precision company developed this cartridge with the help of Dornaus & Dixon for the Bren Ten pistol (market launch 1983), they decided to increase the cartridge's performance. The resulting 10 mm car is a very powerful cartridge that combines good ballistics with a high stopping effect . The cartridge is more accurate than the 9 × 19 mm , for example , due to the better ballistics, which is shown by a flatter trajectory and greater effective range .
After various experiments, a cartridge with a flat head bullet in caliber 10 mm was allegedly brought onto the market at Cooper's initiative , which developed an initial energy of around 840 joules at an initial speed of around 360 m / s and thus supposedly achieved the absolute maximum in the stopping effect of pistols should. The 10 mm auto caliber would have been quickly forgotten if Colt had not first brought out a new weapon for this cartridge with its Colt Delta Elite (1987) and then in 1989 the American Federal Police FBI did not also introduce S&W Pistols in caliber 10 mm Auto would have decided.
The caliber .40 S&W was developed from the 10 mm car by shortening the case and loading it with a lower load.
use
The caliber 10 mm car is used for hunting (primarily for the catch shot), defense and military use. The caliber is common for various special and police units in the USA. The FBI, which introduced this caliber and was also involved in its development, no longer uses it as a standard caliber. The reason for this is the huge recoil that many agents couldn't cope with. Improvements in the projectile technology made it possible to meet the target ballistic requirements of the FBI with smaller calibers. In 1997 they switched to the .40 S&W caliber, until 2016 it was decided to return to the 9 mm Luger caliber.
In the Danish armed forces , the Glock 20 was introduced for the Slædepatruljen Sirius at the headquarters in Daneborg in northeast Greenland in order to defend itself against the polar bears occurring there during patrols .

weapons
Even if the caliber 10 mm Auto is considered to be a relatively uncommon caliber, the number of models available on the market is increasing. In addition to pistols, there are also revolvers that are equipped in this caliber.
There are also a few submachine guns and pistol carbines in this caliber ( Heckler & Koch MP5 / 10 , KRISS Vector ).
