Lists on the subject

The Ruger GP100 is a robust double action revolver and has been produced as the successor to the Security Six series by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in the USA since 1985 . Depending on the caliber, the drum holds between 10 (.22 lfB), 7 (.327 Federal Magnum, .357 Magnum), 6 (.357 Magnum, 10 mm Auto) and 5 (.44 Special) cartridges. These revolvers are still used internationally by some special forces, e.g. B. in Serbia and Greece. Despite their reliability and longevity, revolvers are nowadays mostly replaced by semi-automatic pistols, which is mostly done at the expense of the penetration power, but in favor of the increased cartridge capacity.

The 4.2-inch Match Champion model was also created for sport shooting, as critics did not uniformly welcome the top-heavy "full underlug" design of the GP100, but a "half underlug" version like the previous Security Six was only produced from 1987 to 2003 . The weapon history and the production period can be seen by everyone using the serial number on the Ruger homepage.

description

  • All models in the .357 Magnum caliber can load cartridges in the aforementioned caliber, but also the shorter, cheaper and at the same time less charged .38 Special.
  • It is available in 2 "(51 mm), 2.5" (64 mm), 3 "(76 mm), 4.2" (107 mm), 5 "(127 mm - custom-made), 5.5" (140 mm) or 6 "(152 mm) barrel length,
  • Available with burnished or stainless surface. Stainless models are marked with a "K" (KGP-141)
  • The rear sight is fixed or adjustable. Models with a fixed visor are marked with an "F" (KGPF-331)
  • The weight is between 1000 and 1300 grams, depending on the version.
  • The drum is locked at the front, back and bottom, so a total of three times, but not by the ejector rod, which therefore hardly wears.
  • Like the revolvers of the previous series, the GP-100 can be dismantled without the aid of tools. Ruger advertised dismantling the weapon with the help of a dimes . This should also work with the edge of a cartridge case.
  • Early models were delivered with a black plastic handle with real wood inlays, later models come with a Hogue Monogrip - a black one-piece rubber handle with recessed grips.
  • The models are designated with three-digit model numbers, the middle number stands for the barrel length in inches. The models end in 0 or 1. Variant 0 means "half underlug", i. H. the lower part in which the ejector rod is also located is not continued up to the mouth. Variant 1 therefore means "full underlug", with a continuation of the underflow material to the mouth. Like other well-known revolver manufacturers, Ruger followed the trend of making revolvers a little more top-heavy in order to counteract the revolver popping up when firing with strong magnum ammunition.
  • In the meantime, with the model 1773 in .357 Magnum, for example, models with a 7-shot drum are also available.
