Amersham plc

Amersham plc was a British medical diagnostic and biotechnological products company.

Amersham International plc was founded in 1982. The company has its roots in a National Center founded in 1946 for the development and manufacture of radioactive material for peaceful uses in medicine, research and industry and was the first company to be privatized by Margaret Thatcher .

The Swedish company Pharmacia Biotech was taken over by her in 1997. In the same year it was merged with the Norwegian Nycomed as Nycomed Amersham plc and renamed Amersham plc in 2001 .

In 2004, Amersham plc was taken over by the American company General Electric (GE), integrated into GE Healthcare and divided into the GE Healthcare Medical Diagnostics and GE Healthcare Life Sciences divisions.

The headquarters of GE Healthcare is located in Amersham , of which the name derives. It is the only GE headquarters outside of the United States .
