Amersham is a town in the English county of Buckinghamshire, north-west of London .
Amersham has about 14,500 inhabitants (as of 2011) and consists of two parts: Amersham on the Hill and Old Amersham , where u. a. an old church from the 13th century (Saint Mary's Church), a Tesco supermarket and some older inns are located. However, the history of the place goes back a long way to pre-Saxon times, when it is documented as Agmondesham . Amersham is also known for the local pharmaceutical company Amersham plc . Amersham is served by the London Underground , Amersham station is the terminus of the Metropolitan Line . Amersham has several schools, an indoor swimming pool, a public library as well as public parks and several shops in town. From 1974 to 2020 Amersham was the administrative seat of the district of Chiltern .
