Cupid riding the Pegasus
The Cupid on Pegasus is a statue from the early 20th century on the promenade at Nikolaus-Kopernikus-Park (formerly Zwingerpark ) in Wroclaw .
History and description
The sculpture was built in 1913 by the German sculptor Theodor von Gosen created (1873-1943) and was initially part of an exhibition on the premises of the Wroclaw Centennial Hall . The statue was unveiled on June 19, 1914 at its current location on the Breslau promenade.
The two-meter-high sculpture, consisting of the love god Amor riding a mythical Pegasus with short wings, was made of bronze and stands on a rectangular base made of shell limestone with a granite threshold. The casting was carried out by Brandstetter in Munich. Originally the figure of Cupid held a bow in his left hand and an arrow in his right hand. The horse's eyes were made of smoky quartz ( smoky topaz), those of Cupid of marble and smoky quartz.
