anabin ( At detection and evaluation a usländischer Bi ldungs n achweise) is a database of information for the evaluation of foreign educational certificates. It supports authorities, employers and private individuals in classifying a foreign qualification in the German education system; Nostrification .

history

The database was developed in cooperation with the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art , the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) and the Equivalence Center of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Culture and the Equivalence Center of the Luxembourg Ministry of Science .

The secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education of the Länder - Central Office for Foreign Education - has made the data available to the public online since 2000 .

The database documents the education systems of around 180 countries and provides information on higher education institutions, types of degrees and degrees, as well as detailed background information.

Holders of a qualification acquired abroad can use the data sets to obtain an initial assessment of the value of their training with regard to the German education system. In addition, they can determine the authority in Germany responsible for the specific recognition objective (e.g. professional practice or further training). The database is also a source of information for recognition authorities, employment agencies and employers.

The content includes information on foreign university degrees and academic degrees , the requirements for their acquisition and information on their classification in relation to German university degrees and degrees. Directory institutions

Most of the institutions listed are foreign higher education institutions. With the help of the information provided, it can be determined whether an institution is a recognized higher education institution or not. The institutions are grouped together (institution types) and given a status that shows whether an institution can be viewed as a university or not. The status of an institution can be H +, H- and H +/-.

  • H + = the institution in question is recognized as a university in its home country and is also regarded as a university institution in Germany.
  • H- = the recognition / accreditation in the country of origin is missing and / or there can be no classification as a university in Germany.
  • H +/- = institutions for which no clear statement can be made.
