Manfred "Manni" von Bohr (born November 5, 1950 in Saarland ) is a German drummer .

Career

From 1977 von Bohr was a member of the band Birth Control , with Lenny Mac Dowell , later with Alex Oriental Experience and with the Randy Hansen Band and Peter Bursch's Crumble Machine . Since 2016 he has been playing drums at Birth Control again.

technology

Manni von Bohr developed the so-called "quad-pedal" technique, in which he plays on four pedals with the heel and ball of the toe. He uses these for ostinato figures . He plays double bass with two different sized bass drums (24 "and 22" or 20 "and 22").

Von Bohr plays a 16 "tom-tom on the left and an 8" or 10 "piccolo tymp-tom on his right. His second hi-hat pedal is on the right, so he can play both hi-hats at the same time. His pedals he arranged it offset in the depth so that he could play with heel and point and set it at an angle so that the cardan shafts of the two double foot machines fit one above the other.

Equipment

For a long time he was a member of the artist family of the German drum manufacturer Sonor .

The “German pope of drumming” (the title of an interview in the American Modern Drummer Magazine ) is an endorser of dw Drums, Anatolian cymbals with their own signature cymbal series, Beyerdynamic microphones. Since 2011 he has been playing the drumsticks from Father Sticks USA.

Author and teacher

For many years he was the author of test reports and workshops on the subject of drumming in the specialist journal Musikmagazin . Until 2016 he was editor-in-chief of the oldest German drum magazine drums & percussion . He teaches "Studio Drums" at the Drummer's Institute in Düsseldorf. In January 2016 in Düsseldorf he founded the Music Academy Düsseldorf with Eric Harings .
