Different anal tampons with applicator for fecal incontinence

The anal tampon is used for fecal incontinence . It can be used by both adults and children. There are different types of the product that differ in shape and size. What they all have in common is that they are made of foam and can be inserted into the rectum by the wearer himself .

construction

Anal tampon with a heat-soluble cover

The anal tampon consists of a polyvinyl alcohol foam. The foam is toxicologically and dermatologically harmless and immunologically inactive. Different shapes and sizes up to individual production are suitable to achieve the "suitable pressure-free" closure for the intestinal canal geometries. Due to the special processing of the foam, cup-like micropores are specifically formed on the tampon surface, and it offers a good sealing and holding function. But there are also anal tampons that are inserted into the anus like a suppository. They have a coating that dissolves in the warm, humid environment of the intestinal canal and thus unfolds the anal tampon into a kind of shell. The use of this anal tampon does not require an applicator. Due to their design, these anal tampons cannot be used for all forms of fecal incontinence ; they are only offered in two sizes.

disadvantage

The disadvantage of these products is that there is a foreign body in the rectum and this can make it uncomfortable to wear. While in most cases the patient gets used to this feeling, in some cases it is not possible. Even with diarrhea , the anal tampon quickly reached its limits and then offers little protection against leaking stool.
