Anania from Mok

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anania von Mok , Anania Mokac'i ( Armenian Անանիա Ա Մոկացի ; † 965 (968)) was a Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church and writer. His predecessor had been deposed and, under the laws of the Church, no new patriarch could be elected during his life. It was not until two years later that Anania of Varagavank became patriarch. He appeared as a church reformer and turned against the rapprochement between the Armenians and the Byzantines and the Chalcedonians, in particular against interdenominational marriages. He moved the seat of the Catholicos from Aghtamar to Argina near Kars .
