Anatoly Alexandrovich Vlasov ( Russian Анатолий Александрович Власов , English transcription Anatoly Alexandrovich Vlasov; born November 7 . Jul / 20th August  1908 greg. In Balashov ; † 22. December 1975 in Moscow ) was a Russian physicist.

Vlasov studied at Lomonosov University from 1927 to 1931 , where he stayed for the rest of his career and was given a full professorship in 1944. He was a student of Igor Tamm . From 1945 to 1953 he was head of the department for theoretical physics.

He dealt with optics, physics of crystals, statistical physics and plasma physics, among other things. In plasma physics, the Vlasov equation is named after him, a microscopic equation of motion for the distribution functions of electrons and ions, which takes the place of the Boltzmann equation in gas kinetics, which is not applicable due to the long-range Coulomb forces.

In 1970 he received the Lenin Prize .
