Anbrassen is a term from the sailor's language . When sailing with square sails , it describes the need to align the yard more in the longitudinal direction of the ship in order to sail higher up in the wind ("luff"). This is achieved by tightening and securing the ropes of the leeward sail. The opposite of anbring is to bake or bream.
