Andøya Rakettskytefelt is the name of a rocket launch site on the north Norwegian island of Andøya . The first rocket launch took place on August 18, 1962. Under the project name Ferdinand 1 , a Nike Cajun rocket reached an altitude of 100 km. Since then, over 700 sounding rockets have been launched from there. The highest peak was 1460 km and was reached on January 18, 2008 by a Black Brant 12 from NASA .

The Andøya rocket launch site was selected by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) as part of its SHEFEX program for the launch of the SHEFEX I and SHEFEX II experimental bodies .
