Simple andon board

Andon ( Japanese. ア ン ド ン ) is a method of visual management and part of the Toyota production system to create self-explanatory symbols that are suitable for conveying functions and processes on a machine or process. This method was developed in Japan from management practice .

In its origins, Andon was a simple visual signal (cf. Andon ), a small lamp on a machine that is supposed to draw attention to problems or stops. In the course of further development, a distinction was made between Andon-Cord and Andon-Board .

The Andon board is a visual control device in a production area, usually an illuminated display that shows the production status of a production system. Automatically or by employees who discover a fault, a signal is triggered and help is called by superiors or colleagues.

The Andon-Cord (rip cord) is a leash or a button. This enables employees to initiate a line or system stop if problems arise. They not only serve as an emergency stop , but also as a central display of the problem location and should be clearly visible for everyone.
