András Botos

András Botos (born March 6, 1952 in Salgótarján ) is a former Hungarian boxer and boxing coach.

Botos was Hungarian champion in 1971 and 1972 in featherweight (-57 kg), 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1978 in lightweight (-60 kg) and 1979 in light welterweight (-63.5 kg).

In the junior area (U19) Botos was bronze medalist at the European Championships in 1970. At the European Men's Championships in the following year he won the silver medal after a final defeat against Ryszard Tomczyk, Poland (5-0). At the 1972 Olympic Games , after winning over Nopparat Preecha, Thailand (5: 0), Michael Andrews, Nigeria (5: 0), Louis Self, USA (3: 2), and Kazuo Kobayashi, Japan (4: 1) , the semifinals. In this he faced the future Olympic champion Boris Kuznetsov , Soviet Union , to whom he was defeated with 5: 0 judges' votes.

In 1975 Botos won the bronze medal in the lightweight at the European Championships and in 1976 he again took part in the Olympic Games without success . He was eliminated here in the quarter-finals against Wassili Solomin , Soviet Union (5-0).

After his active time, Botos became a trainer and trained a. a. Vilmos Balog .
