André Gonçalves
André Gonçalves was a Portuguese navigator. He led an expedition to explore the coast of Brazil .
Brazil had already been discovered by the Portuguese through an expedition led by Pedro Álvares Cabral . One of Cabral's ships, under the command of Gaspar de Lemos , brought news of the discovery back to Portugal. Thereupon Gonçalves set sail from the Tagus on May 10, 1501 .
