Andrea Merenzon

Andrea Merenzon (born April 7, 1963 ) is an Argentine bassoonist .

Merenzon has performed as a soloist in Latin America, the USA, Canada, France and Turkey and has worked with numerous Latin American orchestras, the Paris Sinfonietta , the Orchester de Chambre de Toulouse , the Orchestra of Adana, the Orquesta Nacional Brasilera , the Chamber Orchestra of Radio Bucharest and the US Army Symphony together. She made a name for herself as an interpreter of Latin American music. In Paris she gave the first performances of the bassoon concertos by Julio Pardo , Augusto Rattenbach , Roque de Pedro , Astor Piazzolla / Gabriel Senanes and Alonso Crespo .

Since 1987 she has been a member of the Numen wind quintet and the Argos Wind Quartet ; she was also a member of the orchestra of the Teatro Colón and principal bassoonist of the Orquesta de Radio Nacional and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional . She founded and directed the International Music Festival and the International Youth Orchestra Festival of Buenos Aires and was Vice-President of the International Double Reed Society (IDRS) from 1997 to 2001 , of which she chaired the 29th conference in Buenos Aires in 2000.

As a participant, Merenzon won first prizes at the Estímulo Cultural , Promociones Musicales , Jóvenes Solistas festivals in Mar del Plata and the Bienal Nacional de Festivales Musicales . In 1998 she was named Woman of the Year by the American Biografical Institute , in 1999 she received the International Woman of the Year Award from the Cambridge Biografical Institute and an honorary degree from the Fundación Konex . In 2005 she also honored the Diario Clarin as Woman of the Year, and she also received a Latin Grammy that year . She recorded 6 CDs as a soloist, including Latinoamerican Masterpieces , Fronteras Latinas and Merenzon ... para fagot y orquesta and published a collection of Latin American bassoon compositions Obras latinoamericanas para fagot Andrea Merenzon .
