Gabriel Senanes (born April 16, 1956 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine composer and conductor.

Life

Senanes has received numerous commissions from Brazilian and international artists and cultural institutions since the 1990s. The Organization of American States and the Interamerican Music Council commissioned him to compose the opera Ring Side . For Fernando Suárez Paz , the violinist Astor Piazzollas , he wrote the Concierto en canto negroriano in 1996 , which Suárez Paz premiered and recorded under his direction. Tres retratos entrañables were written for the Orquesta Mayo in 1997 , the premiere of which the orchestra played under the direction of Dmitri Manolov . For the 100th birthday ofHe composed Jorge Luis Borges Proa al Este and conducted the world premiere in 1999 with the National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina. His Cubamericargie Quintet was commissioned by Paquito D'Rivera and the American Saxophone Quartet , and the Suite antipopular was commissioned by Jorge de la Vega and Andrea Merenzon . On behalf of the French saxophonist Claude Delangle , he wrote pieces for the Musica 99 Strasbourg Festival .

Many of his works have been broadcast on radio or television and recorded on CD. Musicians such as León Gieco , Fernando Suárez Paz , Liliana Vitale , Roberto Fernández , Andrea Merenzon and Gabriel Pérsico contributed to the LP Cartón lleno (1987) and the CD Vía Libre . In 2000 the CD Kasakoff plays Senanes was released , on which Susana Kasakoff played Senanes' piano works. In the same year Senanes released an album with the tango poet Enrique Cadícamo and the musicians Leopoldo Federico , Néstor Marconi , Julio Pane , Fernando Suárez Paz, Nicolás Ledesma , Horacio Cabarcos , Aníbal Arias and Lucho González . The CD Riberas (Shores) , on which Paquito D'Rivera and the Cuarteto de cuerdas Buenos Aires played Senanes' Certeza incierta, la vida and Piazzolla's Concierto para quinteto , was the first Argentinian classical recording to win a Grammy (2004).

Senanes also works as a music journalist - his book 4 × 4 = Rock, diálogos con músicos de rock argentinos was published in 1980 - and was a juror at various music competitions. In 2002 he was appointed music director of the city of Buenos Aires and from 2002 to 2004 he was general director and musical director of the Teatro Colón . In 2007 he was appointed composer in residence at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . Since 2006 he has been leading the trio SenaneS 3 with Pablo Marcovsky and Diego Arnal .
