Fernando Suárez Paz (born January 1, 1941 in Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires Province ) is an Argentine tango violinist.

Suárez had violin lessons from the age of five and as a teenager became a member of the youth orchestra of LRA Radio del Estado , later of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional . For seventeen years he was principal violinist of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires . He has performed under the direction of conductors such as Burt Bacharach , Lalo Schifrin , Michel Legrand and Waldo de los Ríos .

As a tango musician he was u. a. Member of the orchestra of Enrique Francini , Orlando Tripodi , Titi Rossi , Horacio Salgán , Miguel Caló , Fulvio Salamanca , Pedro Laurenz , Aníbal Troilo , Mariano Mores , Atilio Stampone , Leopoldo Federico , Osvaldo Requena , Néstor Marconi , Osvaldo Berlingieri and Raul Garello , the Lot 7 del Tango and founding member of the Sexteto Mayor . In 1978 he became a violinist in Astor Piazzolla's Quinteto Nuevo Tango , of which he was a member until its dissolution in 1988. During this time he was involved in the recording of eighteen albums and several film soundtracks. Piazzolla dedicated the composition Escualo to him .

In 1991 he recorded Piazzolla's Concierto de Nácar with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires under the direction of Pedro Ignacio Calderón and played the first Piazzolla album Cuerdas para Piazzolla with his own string group . In the same year he was accepted into the Academia Nacional del Tango . He has performed with vibraphonist Gary Burton at jazz festivals in Japan, Europe and the USA and in 1995 recorded the Concierto en Canto Negroriano , which Gabriel Senanes had composed for him, for Arcadia Records .

From 1996 he led a quintet with whom he performed the works of Piazzolla in Israel, Portugal, Spain, the USA, Brazil and Uruguay and recorded the albums Milonga del Angel and Por amor a Astor . In 1997 he recorded Fuga y Misterio with the Duo Assad ( Sergio and Odair Assad ) . With his quintet and the dancer Julio Bocca he toured the USA in 2000 and Europe with the Duo Assad the following year. In 2002 he was awarded a Grammy .

At the Teatro Colón he opened the concert cycle Astor Triunfal in 2002 on the tenth anniversary of Piazzolla's death. In the same year he also played the Concierto en Canto Negroriano under the direction of the composer. In 2004 he founded a duo with Osvaldo Requena and recorded the album Encuentro tanguero with him in 2006 . In 2009 he went on a concert tour through Japan with Requena.
